Our Company
West Workshop is an award-winning architecture and interior design studio founded in 2017 by architect Kurt West, with offices in Raleigh, NC and Washington, DC. What started as a bold vision for contemporary, human-centered design has grown into a multi-disciplinary practice working across the full spectrum of the built environment — from restaurants and coffee shops to custom homes, adaptive reuse projects, public art installations, and custom furniture.
We believe that great design doesn't happen in isolation. At West Workshop, every project is a collaboration — between our team and yours — to create spaces that are thoughtful, functional, and genuinely exciting to be in. Whether you're opening your first restaurant, renovating a family home, or commissioning a public artwork, we bring the same level of care, curiosity, and craft to your project.
Our Services
We offer full-service architecture and interior design, guiding clients from the very first sketch all the way through construction completion. Our process is collaborative by design — we bring together designers, consultants, contractors, and fabricators into a shared workflow so that your vision stays intact from concept to ribbon-cutting.
Commercial Architecture & Interior Design
Our commercial work is shaped by the real-world needs of your business. We design environments that reinforce brand identity, support daily workflows, and create memorable experiences for your customers and team. From restaurants and coffee shops to retail, office, and mixed-use projects, we're experienced in managing budgets, timelines, and the complexity of commercial construction — so you don't have to lose sleep over it.
Residential Architecture & Interior Design
Whether you're dreaming of a custom home from the ground up, a thoughtful addition, or a whole-home renovation, we work closely with you to create spaces that feel like you. Our residential projects are defined by smart planning, modern detailing, and designs that actually suit the way people live. We also embrace energy-efficient strategies and modular systems wherever they make sense — because a great home should be as practical as it is beautiful.
Public Art & Fabrication
Public art commissions are where we get to push boundaries. These projects let us explore new materials, fabrication methods, and contextual storytelling — and they create meaningful touchpoints for the communities they're built in. You can explore that work at kurtwest.com.
Need something that just doesn't exist off the shelf? We design and coordinate custom furniture and built-in millwork to complement our architectural projects — or as standalone commissions. It's one of our favorite ways to bring a space fully to life.
